As a point of interest: I do the digital portion of my "artwork" in a ten-plus-year-old version of Paint Shop Pro -- 7.04 Anniversary Edition, specifically. Last version made by the original developers before Corel butchered it into a watered-down knockoff of Photoshop.

Anyways, the point I was trying to make is that there aren't a huge number of tutorials available for doing this kind of work, so I have to sort of develop my own techniques as I work.
I don't know about anyone else, but I can see the improvement compared to that Sweetie Belle picture.
